What we send
Medical devices are sorted by risk. We only handle the two lower-risk groups, Class 1 and Class 2, and only equipment a partner clinic or hospital has asked for.
Device classes we handle
Low risk
Class 1
Equipment that supports patients and staff without going into the body.
- Hospital beds, manual and electric
- Wheelchairs and walking aids
- Stretchers and patient hoists
- Stethoscopes
- Examination lamps
Medium risk
Class 2a
Equipment used to diagnose, measure and monitor, or to move fluids in routine care.
- Diagnostic ultrasound scanners
- ECG machines
- Electronic blood pressure monitors
- Electronic thermometers
- Suction pumps
- Sterilisers (autoclaves) for medical instruments
Medium to high risk
Class 2b
More complex equipment. We only send it when the receiving clinic or hospital has trained staff to run and maintain it.
- Multi-parameter patient monitors with alarms
- Infusion pumps
Examples from EU guidance MDCG 2021-24 on the classification of medical devices. Each device's class is set by its manufacturer; we check it before accepting anything.
Before anything is accepted
- It matches a request from a partner clinic or hospital.
- It is inspected, tested and documented against the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR), by an independent testing partner in Switzerland (being selected now).
- Manuals, power supplies and accessories come with it, and the voltage suits the destination.
- Spare parts and servicing are realistic where it is going.
What we do not handle
- Class 3 devices, the highest-risk group, such as implants and heart valves
- Medicines and vaccines
- Expired or opened single-use sterile products
- Laboratory test kits, which fall under a separate regulation
- Anything a partner clinic or hospital has not asked for
